When Jacob Lips was born on 23 May 1680, in Schlieren, Zürich, Switzerland, his father, Clihans Sr Lips, was 36 and his mother, Regula Kuhn, was 32. He married Catharina Spielmann about 1711, in Zürich, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 22 April 1740, at the age of 59, and was buried in Schlieren, Zürich, Switzerland.
