When Niels Sørensen Langballe was christened on 16 October 1687, in Mårslet, Havreballegård, Denmark, his father, Soren Andersen Langballe, was 27 and his mother, Kiersten Nielsdatter, was 26. He married Vita Nikkelsdatter Seidelin about 1719. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 4 July 1752, in Århus, Denmark, at the age of 64, and was buried in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The Royal Danish Military Academy educated and commissioned all officers for the Royal Danish Army. The Military Academy function was initiated in 1713 by request of King Frederick IV on inspiration from the Naval Academy.
