Brief Life History of Alpheus
When Alpheus Mason was born on 16 March 1860, his father, Sidney Mason, was 32 and his mother, Ann Parker, was 33. He married Phoebe Simmonds on 27 June 1887, in Hastings, New Zealand. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 24 November 1922, in Wellington, New Zealand, at the age of 62.

1861 · The Central Otago Gold Rush
After discovery of gold in Gabriel's Gully, hundreds of miners and precious metal hunters flocked to New Zealand to be a part of the frenzy. This influx of people caused new settlements to pop up and different innovation techniques to begin. After a few years of steady success, the gold began to be more difficult to find. While some stayed, most of the prospectors left until most of the settlements, which they had founded, became Ghost Towns with only a few residents staying around.
1863 · New Zealand Settlements Act
The New Zealand Settlements Act was passed to be able to seize any of the land from the Maori tribes who had been in rebellion against the Government since the beginning of the year. This confiscation law targeted Kingitanga Maori mainly because they were whom the government had waged war against in the attempt to restore British Law to the tribes.
1887 · New Zealands's First National Park
Tongariro National Park was the sixth national park established in the world and the first in New Zealand. In the center of the park there lies three active volcanic mountains (Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro). it is home to the famed Tongariro Alpine Crossing day hike and has been recognized as a World Heritage Site for all its natural values.
