He married Rebecca Cook about 1868, in Kent, British Columbia, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 3 daughters. He immigrated to Utah, United States in 1850 and lived in Davis, Utah, United States in 1860 and Hobart, Douglas, Nevada, United States in 1900. He died on 23 January 1924, in Oakland, Alameda, California, United States, at the age of 80, and was buried in Mottsville Cemetery, Douglas, Nevada, United States.

"In October 1845, the newspaper Times and Seasons published a poem written by Eliza R. Snow entitled ""My Father in Heaven."" It has become the well known hymn, ""Oh My Father."" The song is only one in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hymnbook that referrs to a Heavenly Mother."
