Joseph Lorenz was born on 31 October 1788, in Casti-Wergenstein, Graubünden, Switzerland as the son of Stephan Lorenz and Maria Kadosi. He married Wilhelmina Knoop on 7 May 1835, in Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He died on 13 April 1854, in Beuningen, Gelderland, Netherlands, at the age of 65.
