When Hans Ulrich Pluess was born on 14 February 1745, in Rothrist, Aargau, Switzerland, his father, Jakob Pluess, was 35 and his mother, Anna Daettwiler, was 31. He married Elisabeth Hofer on 24 October 1766, in Langenthal, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 30 October 1822, at the age of 77.
