When John Violett was born in 1804, in Virginia, United States, his father, Edward Violette III, was 33 and his mother, Elizabeth Hite, was 26. He married Winifred V Ewing on 2 January 1830, in Logan, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Paducah, McCracken, Kentucky, United States in 1850. He died before 1859.

The Monumental Church was built between 1812-1814 on the sight where the Richmond Theatre fire had taken place. It is a monument to those that died in the fire.
