When Christen Schmid was born in 1760, his father, Hans Schmid, was 38 and his mother, Barbara Wasem, was 30. He married Christina Zbinden on 27 November 1786, in Guggisberg, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 30 December 1823, at the age of 63, and was buried in Wahlern, Bern, Switzerland.
