    1786 · Shays' Rebellion

    Caused by war veteran Daniel Shays, Shays' Rebellion was to protest economic and civil rights injustices that he and other farmers were seeing after the Revolutionary War. Because of the Rebellion it opened the eyes of the governing officials that the Articles of Confederation needed a reform. The Rebellion served as a guardrail when helping reform the United States Constitution.

    1787 · The Making of the U.S. Constitution.

    The Philadelphia Convention was intended to be the first meeting to establish the first system of government under the Articles of Confederation. From this Convention, the Constitution of the United States was made and then put into place making it one of the major events in all American History.

    1788 · Connecticut Becomes the 5th State

    Connecticut became a state on January 9, 1788. In 1650, before it was a state, the boundary of Connecticut ran north from the westside of Greenwich Bay and the coast of the Pacific Ocean. During the 1600s, Westmoreland County was in Connecticut when the boundaries were changed Westmoreland County went to Pennsylvania.

    Name Meaning

    English and Scottish: habitational name from any of various places called with Old English wudu ‘wood’ + ford ‘ford’, such as Woodford in Cheshire, Cornwall, Essex, Northamptonshire, and Wiltshire. In Scotland, the name is derived from Woodford in Saint Boswells (Roxburghshire).

    History: Thomas Woodford emigrated from Lincolnshire, England, to NY in 1690.
