He married Arda Anna Hutchins on 8 January 1937. He lived in Jackson Township, Warren, Iowa, United States in 1925 and Election Precinct 63, El Paso, Colorado, United States in 1930. He died on 19 July 1998, in Colorado, United States, at the age of 88, and was buried in Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado, United States.

The Keokuk Dam was completed in 1913 and began to power the surrounding area. It was the largest single capacity powerhouse in the world at the time. After World War II, the powerhouse was modernized and all the units were converted in 2002. It remains the largest privately owned and operated dam on the Mississippi River.
The museum started as a private collection given to the city by Henry W. Grout. Today it is still a nonprofit educational museum that helps engage students and all people from the surrounding communities.
