    History: The name was brought to America by John Lupton, who sailed fromGravesend, England, on the Primrose in 1635, and is recorded in VA threeyears later. On 24 October 1635 Davie Lupton set off on theConstance bound for VA, but there is no record of his arrivalin the New World. A Christopher Lupton is recorded in Suffolk Co.,Long Island, NY, c. 1635, and a large number of Luptons in NCdescend from him. An American family of the name settled in the areaof Winchester, VA, in the mid18th century; they can be traced back toMartin Lupton, who was married in 1630 in the parish of Rothwell,Yorkshire, England.
