When Jepthah Geer was born on 7 February 1774, in Connecticut, United States, his father, Thomas Geer, was 23 and his mother, Meribah Killam, was 18. He married Olivet Herrick on 19 November 1797, in Worthington, Hampshire, Massachusetts, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 30 August 1851, in his hometown, at the age of 77, and was buried in Avery Cemetery, Preston, New London, Connecticut, United States.

1781 · British Forces Capture Fort Griswold

The capture of Fort Griswold was the final act of treason that Benedict Arnold committed. This would be a British victory. On the American side 85 were killed, 35 wounded and paroled, 28 taken prisoner, 13 escaped, and 1 twelve year old was captured and released.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
