When John McClaskey was born on 25 February 1824, in Washington, Indiana, United States, his father, Isaac McClaskey Sr, was 38 and his mother, Sarah "Sallie" Godsil, was 37. He married Elizabeth Parker on 10 July 1861, in Monroe, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Brown Township, Washington, Indiana, United States in 1870 and Franklin Township, Montgomery, Indiana, United States in 1880. He died on 7 February 1907, at the age of 82, and was buried in Sumner, Kansas, United States.
