She died on 21 November 1944, in Parr, Union Township, Jasper, Indiana, United States, at the age of 57, and was buried in Rensselaer, Marion Township, Jasper, Indiana, United States.

1890 · The Sherman Antitrust Act

This Act tried to prevent the raising of prices by restricting trade. The purpose of the Act was to preserve a competitive marketplace to protect consumers from abuse.

1892 · The Masonic Temple Building

The Masonic Temple Building was a skyscraper built in Chicago and from 1895 to 1920 it was the tallest building in Chicago. The building featured a central court surrounded by shops on nine floors. On top of the shops there were meeting rooms that were also used as theaters. In 1939 the Masonic Temple was demolished, and a Walgreens drug store was erected in its place. 

1903 · Department of Commerce and Labor

A short-lived Cabinet department which was concerned with controlling the excesses of big business. Later being split and the Secretary of Commerce and Labor splitting into two separate positions.

Probably an altered form of French Gariot: nickname or topographic name from a diminutive of the past participle of the verb garer ‘to shelter or protect’. The surname Gariot is very rare in France; its altered form may have been brought to America from England.
