1781 · British Forces Capture Fort Griswold

The capture of Fort Griswold was the final act of treason that Benedict Arnold committed. This would be a British victory. On the American side 85 were killed, 35 wounded and paroled, 28 taken prisoner, 13 escaped, and 1 twelve year old was captured and released.

1802 · Brass is Discovered

In 1802, brass was identified in Waterbury, Connecticut. This gave the city the nickname "The Brass City." Brass dominated the city and helped to create the city. The motto of the city is Quid Aere Perennius, which means What is more lasting than brass? in Latin.

English (Yorkshire): in northwestern England perhaps a variant of Bostock , and in southeastern England a variant of Bastick (see Bostick 1) with rounding of the vowel.
