When John Cantonwine was born in 1825, in Woodbury Township, Bedford, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Charles Cantonwine, was 34 and his mother, Mary Magdalena Scholl, was 41. He married Caroline Denslow on 1 May 1849, in Center Township, Cedar, Iowa, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 daughters. He lived in Benton, Benton, Iowa, United States in 1850 and Waterloo Township, Black Hawk, Iowa, United States in 1860. He registered for military service in 1862. He died on 19 September 1868, in Black Hawk, Gilpin, Colorado, United States, at the age of 43.

1825 · The Crimes Act

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.
