He married Susannah Rhoads on 25 November 1847, in Highland, Ohio, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Des Moines Township, Dallas, Iowa, United States in 1870 and Peoples Township, Boone, Iowa, United States in 1880. He died on 4 September 1891, in Dickinson, Kansas, United States, at the age of 66, and was buried in Dickinson, Kansas, United States.

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.

Irish: adopted as a translation of Ó Cuill ‘descendant of Coll’ (see Quill ), or in Ulster of Mac Con Coille ‘son of Cú Choille’, a personal name meaning ‘hound of the wood’, which has also been mistranslated Cox , as if formed with coileach ‘cock, rooster’.
