When Benjamin Doty was born on 7 May 1755, in Sharon, Litchfield, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, his father, Silas Doty Sr, was 33 and his mother, Susanna Bumpus, was 30. He married Eleanor Chapman about 1778. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 2 daughters. He died on 17 April 1835, in Austerlitz, Columbia, New York, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Route 22 Cemetery, Green River, Columbia, New York, United States.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

English: probably a variant of Doughty . This form of the surname is now rare in Britain.

History: Edward Doty (c. 1600–55) was one of the passengers on the Mayflower, a servant of Stephen Hopkins. He became comparatively wealthy and moved to Duxbury MA, where he left nine children.
