He died on 25 March 1893, in Troy, Pike, Alabama, United States, at the age of 90, and was buried in Brundidge, Pike, Alabama, United States.

1804 · Walton War

The Walton War was a border dispute between Georgia and North Carolina, when Georgia established Walton County. The main piece of land being fought over was called the Orphan Strip and was located between North Carolina and Georgia. It started in 1804 and became part of the War of 1812 and lasted until 1818.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

Name Meaning

English and Scottish: habitational name from Galloway in southwest Scotland, named as ‘place of the foreign Gaels’, from Gaelic gall ‘foreigner’ + Gaidheal ‘Gael’. From the 8th century or before it was a province of Anglian Northumbria. In the 9th century it was settled by mixed Gaelic-Norse inhabitants from the Hebrides and Isle of Man.
