When Martha Bedford was born in 1756, in Drakes Branch, Charlotte, Virginia, United States, her father, Col. Thomas Bedford, was 31 and her mother, Mary Ligon Coleman, was 25. She married Charles Edwin Crenshaw on 5 May 1780. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 3 daughters. She died on 2 August 1818, in Charlotte Court House, Charlotte, Virginia, United States, at the age of 62.

1758 · Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon Plantation was the home of George Washington. It started off as 2,000 acres and was later expanded to 8,000 acres. The house itself started off as a six room building then got extended to twenty-one rooms.

Name Meaning

English: habitational name from the county seat of Bedfordshire, or a smaller place of the same name in Lancashire, or from Bedforth in Thornhill, Yorkshire. Both of the former are named with the Old English personal name Bēda + Old English ford ‘ford’. The name is now very common in Yorkshire as well as Bedfordshire.
