When Sarah Helms was born on 7 August 1796, in Tennessee, United States, her father, James Helms, was 42 and her mother, Elizabeth Terry, was 46. She married Morgan Hawkins on 28 March 1819, in Daviess, Kentucky, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in Prairie Township, Davis, Iowa, United States in 1850 and Union Township, Wayne, Iowa, United States for about 10 years. She died on 26 September 1872, in Wayne, Iowa, United States, at the age of 76, and was buried in Sharon Cemetery, Wayne, Iowa, United States.

The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
