When Morten Eriksen was born in 1763, in Hjelmeland, Rogaland, Norway, his father, Erik Mortensen, was 33 and his mother, Kirsten Svendsdatter Topdal, was 38. He married Gerdtrud Aadnesdtr on 22 June 1794. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. He died on 14 December 1805, in Varhaug, Hå, Rogaland, Norway, at the age of 42.
